Mutual fund qestion: Initial investment vs Initial investmetn IRA?
I have some Mutual funds in my 401K, I would like to buy the same funds outside of the 401K. Would the additional money be considered as “Min Initial Investment” or would it be considered as “Min Subsequent Investment”
Also, what is “Min Subsequent Investment, AIP”

how much have you lost in your 401k, IRA, or just plain stock investment?

What is the difference between a roth IRA and a normal investment account by a broker?
1. In both cases I can invest only after tax money.
2. I can withdraw my money whenever I want in both cases.
3. I can only contribute $5,000 per year in the roth IRA while I can contribute how much I want with a normal investment account.
So why would I choose to open a roth IRA instead of a normal investment account where I can invest how much I want?
Regular 401k, Regular IRA, and my wife’s Roth IRA plus our Investment?
I’m using simple terminology to help others who may benefit from my questions.
Facts: our planned retirement age 62, won’t live in USA, we will have 5 sources of income: my 401k + IRA + military pension, her IRA , & our investments.
Unknowns: Social Security for us, & my employer’s pension; not planning on them.
1. I have a regular 401k. Would like to know what mandatory US government deductions (e.g., taxes) will I owe on each withdrawal? A simple line-item answer is fine.
2. Same question for my traditional IRA, & for my wife’s Roth IRA.
3. Our investments are made with after-tax dollars. Since I already paid taxes on that money before investing it, when I reach 62, will I have to pay taxes on my withdrawals? If so, would that be double-taxation: the money was taxed before I invested it & then the gov’t will tax it again upon withdrawal? Remember: I also paid tax on the dividends and capital gains thru the years.
4. Do RMDs apply to IRAs & 401Ks?
Can I rollover a 401K with current employer to a IRA or Roth IRA in another investment company?
American Century Investment versus Fidelity?
I have a 401K with JP Morgan to which I’m no longer contributing because I’m not at my old job anymore. I want to take some money out of it but not all. Things may get tight at the end of the year so my best option is to roll it to an IRA. JP Morgan recommended their partner American Century Investments. I was thinking about Fidelity or one of those TV advertised places.
What do you suggest? How’s American Century? Any better options for a 25 yr-old full-time grad student working a part-time job (not that it makes a difference)? I can’t contribute right now because I’m in an internship without benefits that pays little so I’ll wait for next year to start contributing again when I get a full-time job.
Thanks.
I’m a college student. Can you recommend some investment opportunities I should consider (e.g. Roth IRA, 401k)?
I am a college student and want to identify a smart way to start saving money. Can you recommend some things I should think about and/or investment opportunities I should consider (e.g. 401k, Roth IRA, etc) and how to decide where to start?
401k vs Roth IRA? Investment advice?
I just started working and I’m with this company that offers me 70k annually. My company offers both 401k and Roth IRA. I think they match up to 25 percent of the first 6 percent on both types of plans. I can only put up to 30 percent of my paycheck monthly to both plans.
The question is, should I put 15 percent on 401k and Roth IRA or the full 30 percent on either plans?
My main goal is to purchase a house in 7 years. But I think i have enough for down payment even without taking money from either plans.
