Better to withdraw funds from a 401K or IRA?

Assuming you can withdraw early from an IRA account.
Right now I have a 401K and I might need to take an emergency withdrawal in the next couple of months. I know there is a penalty. Would it be better to roll over to a roth ira right now and withdraw in a couple of months? What kind of penalties am I looking at?

I teach school in Texas. I make okay money. I am 34 years old. Texas has an okay retirement, but I do not plan on being here in five yeras. Which would be better for me to open: IRA account, 403b or 401k plan? Thanks

I have heard that it’s good to invest in both the 401K and an IRA. Right now I have the 401K down but need some advise regarding a Roth or Traditional IRA. I’m not exactly sure which would be better to invest in. I would be doing a joint investment with my husband. What are the differences between the two? Any impute would be greatly appreciated!

My employer has recently mentioned that I was eligible for 401(k) plan. However, I heard that opening an IRA account instead 401(k) would be better. Would you please share with your experience and knowledge in this matter? I cannot afford both.

I have a mortage with a 5.25% arm that is adjustable in 2010. I am also investing in my employer’s 401K plan but only need to invest 6% to get the total match. I am currently investing 12% because I don’t have much in the way of retirement. Would it be better to throw that additional cash at the principle of the mortgage each month rather than in a 401K?

I am 23 and have been in the military for about 3 years. I have had a small amount of money invested in an ING account from a job that I left about five years ago. I would like to finally do something with it and am debating between a traditional IRA from ING, or a 401K. I am a total novice when it comes to investing and would like some advice from someone who knows what they are talking about. What would be better for me at this point to put the money in so I can add more in each month.

I currently have a simple IRA @ work my understanding is that my boss meets 100% of what I put in @ end of year ! My credit union offers simple IRA and Roth IRA but isnt that the same as a 401K? Wich one is better?

I am currently putting away 20% of my paycheck into my 401K at my part time job since I am eligible. They match 100% of the first 3% and 50% of the next 2%. Would it be better to only put in the 5% needed into the 401K and then put the remaining 15% into the Roth? I just figured since my tax bracket is going to be much higher when I am older(currently 21) wouldn’t it make sense to put into a Roth now? So that I am not taxed as much in the future? Also, is there a minimun needed to start a Roth IRA? I thought I heard $2000. Best places to put into a Roth? My local credit union or a larger bank?
